Aequitas International
Our programmes help women and children overcome war and disaster by providing not only emergency relief but also tailored support at every stage of resettlement to achieve long term security and self-reliance.
Our story
The charity is named after the Roman goddess of equity and fairness, Aequitas. She is most often depicted holding a pair of scales representing fair dealings and equality. Aequitas stands for true fairness, as opposed to justice which is always connected to the laws made by humankind. Equity, on the other hand, is beyond laws, which, however fairly intended, are always imperfect.
Aequitas International stands for equality, impartiality, symmetry, and fairness and is focused on the human rights of migrant, stateless and refugee women and children. Aequitas International was founded in the face of the devastating humanitarian crisis in Ukraine during which it has become painfully clear how humanitarian aid and policies do not sufficiently address the unique risks faced by women and girls at every stage of their migration experience. Aequitas International is a UK-based nonprofit organisation focusing on women and children. We provide targeted aid to migrant, stateless and refugee women and children tailored to their particular needs.
